Luisa Brillembourg (Caracas, 1971) is a Venezuelan photographer and visual artist. Her work moves between image and word, with a particular focus on transformation, the changing meanings of the everyday, and in-between states of experience. Through a contemplative approach, she explores how forms and their meanings can evoke emotions and give visible presence to the intangible.

She trained at Roberto Mata Taller de Fotografía in Caracas between 2008 and 2010. In that final year, she also took a course at the International Center of Photography in New York. She worked as a still photographer on Reverón and El malquerido, films by Venezuelan filmmaker Diego Rísquez. This experience helped shape the poetic and symbolic sensibility that characterizes her approach to images.

In 2022, she published Vía de tránsito, a photobook bringing together photographs and her own texts on the feelings associated with an empty nest. The dialogue between image and word shapes this intimate work and is a line of inquiry she developed further during the PHotoESPAÑA Master’s program in 2023. Her training also includes the Advanced Diploma in Photography at the Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios Fotográficos (CIEFVE) in 2020–2021 and its Advanced Photography Project program in 2025.

Her practice is gradually expanding to include video and screen printing. In La forma que espera, presented in a solo exhibition at Sala Mendoza in Caracas in 2026, she removes elements found in nature from their original context to give them new meanings and explore fragility and transformation. She is currently developing a project on political prisoners, which is in the research phase.

She also has a background in Business Administration from Universidad Metropolitana in Caracas. She lives and works between Venezuela and the United States.

________
